Top ministers meet to discuss Article 377
pfont size="2"strongAge Correspondent/strong/font/p pNew Delhi/p pJuly 3: The Centre on Friday appeared to be treading with caution on the controversial law relating to same gender sex following the Delhi high court verdict on Article 377 on Thursday. Home minister P. Chidambaram said that the government will only take a view on the matter after the law ministry studies the high court judgment and prepares a note. A high-level meeting of three senior ministers ? Mr Chidambaram, law minister M. Veerappa Moily and health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad ? all of whom were mandated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to decide the government?s stand on the issue at a time when the high court judgement had not come, met in North Block on Friday to study the issue in the wake of the high court ruling legalising homosexual acts among consenting adults. The trio will submit their report to the Prime Minister./p pMr Chidambaram and Mr Moily are understood to be in favour of repealing the provision of the IPC./p pquot; We were asked to meet and take a view on the matter which was pending the high court. However, when we fixed the date for Friday?s meeting, we did not know that the judgement will be delivered. The judgement deals with only one aspect of Section 377. So we have asked department of law to prepare a note based on the judgement and we will look at it and then we will decide what needs to be done, quot; Mr Chidambaram said./p p /p
